History

Rev. Lewis Kohr was pastor of the York Circuit for the United Brethren Church.  As he traveled through the young town of Red Lion, he saw the need to tell the people of Red Lion about God’s love and grace for them.  On Saturday evening, April 13, 1882, Rev. Kohr preached his first sermon in Red Lion, and that was the beginning of Bethany Church.  People gathered and eventually became part of a movement to build a church to have a place to gather and then send people into the community for ministry.
