Day 8 – You Want Me to Go Do What?

Week 2
Moses was a long way from home. In fact, he was pretty sure he would never go back and probably did not want to go back. Moses was born into slavery and was scheduled for drowning in the Nile River along with all the other Hebrew baby boys. Through his mother’s bravery and ingenuity, not only is he saved from death but ends up growing up in Pharaoh’s house.

At the age of 40, he sees the plight of the Hebrew people as slaves. In a moment of anger, he kills an Egyptian taskmaster who was abusing a Hebrew slave. Therefore, he wastes his influence and opportunity to really help the Hebrew people as he must flee for his life as a murderer.

For the next 40 years, he becomes a shepherd in a far away, remote area. It is then that God comes to him and says it is now time to free the Hebrew people. But Moses is not having anything to do with God’s plan. He comes up with excuse after excuse as to why he should not, could not, and would not go. As God refutes each excuse, Moses finally says this.
Exodus 4:13 (NIV)
[13] But Moses said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.”
Moses had lost all his belief and hope that his life could be used by God. Fortunately, God had not given up on Moses. God knew all of his strengths and weaknesses and chose him as being the right person to lead the Hebrew slaves to freedom. But it would not be in Moses’ strength that they would be delivered. By using a broken man like Moses and delivering a group of slaves to become a great nation, there would be no doubt that God had done it.

The same is true in our lives. When we are delivered from our brokenness and slavery, there is no doubt by whose power it is done. It is done by God’s loving hand. Perhaps you feel like you are broken and in slavery. God’s promise is there for you. We have to trust.

When Moses asked God how the people will know that you have sent me, he tells Moses that they will know when they are out of Egypt. That is not much proof when you are still in slavery. I can only say as God has said, trust, move forward, and see what God can do – then you will know that it is by God’s hand.

Is there something that God is inviting you to do, but you are not listening or not willing to do it? If we truly want to see God at work in our world and in our lives, we must say yes when he calls to us. The Father invites us into his house to be refreshed and renewed. We are also sent out, so that others can be healed and made whole by God’s Spirit living in and through us. Where will he call you to go today?

Time of Prayer:

2) 1 min – What am I going to do about it?
3) 1 min – What do I want to say to God?
4) 2 min – Listen for what God wants to say to you now.
