Day 18 – Living Water

Week 3
Jesus and the disciples had traveled a long way by foot. Jesus sat down by the well while the disciples went into town to get food. It’s hard to image that the creator of the universe was hot, tired, hungry and thirsty. While Jesus was waiting, a Samaritan woman came to the well. He asked her for a drink.

This woman had a difficult life. She was shunned by all the townspeople because she had been married 5 times and was now living with a man she wasn’t married to. Jesus did not reject her. In fact, he offered her life.
John 4:10 (NIV)
[10] Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
The woman had been to this well hundreds of times to satisfy her thirst, only to have to return again the next day because her thirst was never satisfied. Likewise, what well do we keep returning to for satisfaction which never truly satisfies?

Jesus offered her and us the one thing that will truly satisfy the thirst of our souls – God’s love. God forgives us and is more than willing to heal our brokenness with an unconditional love. He offers us his love, just as we are, broken and sinful. Yet, he loves us enough to heal our brokenness and restore our lives.

As this woman accepts this love, she runs back to town to tell all the others about Jesus and God’s love. She is so full of God’s love that she even wants to share it with those who have rejected her. That’s living water!

Are you in need of this living water? It is found in the love of the Father for you, through Jesus Christ. It can fill you full to overflowing just like this woman – so much so, that you end up sharing it will everyone, even those who have rejected you. Come into his house and receive his love today. Go and share it with the world.
